Perhaps nothing reflects Cleveland's comeback more than the renovated Playhouse Square Center. The Playhouse complex encompasses the ornate Palace, Ohio, State, Allen and Kennedy theaters, restored to their original 1930's glory.
Life Upon the Wicked Stage
Throughout the year, the theaters enjoy a busy schedule of touring plays, dance, movies and musical performances. The Palace featured Tony Award-winning musicals like "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and "Bring In 'Da Noise, Bring In 'Da Funk." The rafters of the Ohio have resounded with the musical stylings of artists like Christine Lavin and the Chenille Sisters. The State has held "The Barber of Seville" and other grand operas. The Allen has hosted the popular audience-participation comedy "Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding." The Kennedy, a more intimate hall (often rented out), responded with a you-are-there Irish wake by a local comedy troupe.
