Editorial Review for South Chagrin Reservation – by Angela Fasick
Overview
You may have been to South Chagrin Reservation for a polo match or a walk through the arboretum, but Squaw Rock should not be missed. The park named a picnic area after this landmark, a sandstone boulder covered with carvings of a squaw, a rattlesnake, an infant and a number of patriotic images, all etched by blacksmith Henry Church in 1885. The Squaw Rock Picnic Area serves as trailhead for two bike excursions.
The Experience
The reservation offers both short and long bike routes. The routes are pretty and not terribly overpopulated, and cyclists must keep to paved roads and blacktop-covered trails. Those who want a long ride should mount at Squaw Rock and take the road to Brecksville. A one-way trip is 18 miles and passes Shadow Lake along a very green, tree-lined thoroughfare.
