The Scene
Situated along Long Beach's historic downtown Pine Avenue, the elegant setting and upper-echelon clientele are likely to impress dining companions. Large jade columns, white linens and warm candlelight provide a romantic atmosphere, enhanced by live opera singers on the weekends. Service is impeccable.
The Food
Beautiful presentations, a commitment to authentic Italian dishes and an extensive wine list leave customers fully satisfied. Appetizers like fresh buffalo mozzarella wrapped in paper-thin slices of prosciutto, and chunks of perfectly rare, center-cut ahi tuna melt on the tongue. Pastas are exemplary: A homemade beet tortelli filled with mozzarella is enhanced with truffle essence and champagne, and artichoke ravioli filled with duck and smooth marscapone cheese in a creamy walnut sauce is equally unforgettable. A wide choice of third-course entrees includes veal, chicken and fish, but the roasted rack of lamb stands out for its achingly tender meat and rich flavor.

This was one of our favorites in the area. Fantastic setup and food was great too. Please note, it WAS great. We tried the place again since we were never disappointed before but now, from the reservationist to busboy to the manager to food to..........just awful. Our poor waiter was frantic. What happened? We clearly made a reservation but they didn't have our name written anywhere when we arrived. But it didn't matter because the place ws half empty on weekend night! And then, busboy kept clearing our table. I mean, really clearing our table as if we were done and left already - we were still waiting for our main course and he took away our silverware and everything! Food was well below average also. What happened? All I know is, we are NOT going back.
Pros: Ambience and valet parking
Cons: everything else

We went to this restaurant as part of a dinner and show package, so we got a prix fix menu. It started off nice with the pleasant decor, the service was going well, but unfortunately the food was average. I've certainly had better. They had a very large wine list, but surprising a short list of wine by the glass. The house chard and cab are "okay". My ravalio was somewhat cold and the pieces I was given looked like they were already torn into. My husband had the chicken, and though moist it was very salty. Major downfall was that I found a piece of wet tissue in my salad, and the server didn't even apologize or anything. I spoke with the mgr afterwards and he basically told me if I had told him sooner, we would have given me a free dessert...so not worth it. We overhead the neighboring table talk about the overcooked steak, so they were unsatisfied too. For a place that's aiming to be high end, it missed the mark completely. Will most likely not go there again.
Pros: the bread was good, long wine list
Cons: Salty food, watch out for anomolies in food
