Bona fide Puerto Rican nosh--including exotic flans and cheesecakes--with great views of bustling West 25th Street..
In Short
Right in the middle of the ethnically-diverse West Side Market area, Lelolai's understated decor belies its scrumptious, homemade Spanish-style desserts, sandwiches, salads and gourmet coffees. Speciality flan and cheesecakes--in exotic flavors like guava and blueberry brandy--go well with cappuccinos, espressos or house-blend javas. Eight Puerto Rican and Cuban sandwiches, measuring slightly under one foot and unceremoniously thrown in a basket with wax paper, include the Cuban and Caribeno, both with garlicky mayo, mild mustard and onions.

The place is clean, tropical colors add to an airy atmosphere. Service is friendly and the aim is to please customers. Sandwiches are assembled as ordered, there may be a wait at rush hour. Variety is good, new products are offered with relative frequency. It is in a great location, good parking available.
