Miss Kittin Editorial Review
The Skinny
Since the mid-'90s, the purr-inducing Miss Kittin (born Caroline Herve in Grenoble, France) and her partner-in-sonic-crime, the Hacker (Michael Amato), have been tweaking expectations in the techno scene with daringly goofball electroclash concoctions. Starting out as a rave DJ on the French circuit, Miss Kittin relocated to Switzerland and hooked up with the International Deejay Gigolos label. IDG issued the "Champagne!" EP, featuring her notoriously raunchy tribute to Frank Sinatra, which she revived in 2001. Miss Kittin's cooing, French-inflected speak-singing is sexy yet silly. With "First Album" (2000), her sound expanded to include playfully retro new wave and disco touches, all dispatched with a knowing wink. Miss Kittin has also lent her voice and remixing skills to peers like Felix da Housecat, Golden Boy and Sven Väth, for a saucy Serge Gainsbourg cover.
The Crowd
Kittin attracts a cool dance crowd who want self-referential giggles with their beats.
