We recently drove downtown early to use a purchased gift certificate at 1890 prior to attending a show at Playhouse Square.
The waitress who came to our table was courteous, but when we mentioned the gift certificate, she said they were no longer honoring them. Since the gift certificate states, "no expiration date", we asked to talk to the manager. When she came to talk to us, she said 1890 had been fraudulently listed with the seller's web site. We felt that this should've been mentioned somewhere on either 1890's or the seller's website, and since this was not the case, we told the manager we were pressed for time, had driven downtown for a nice dinner, and had to insist that 1890 at least cover our parking.
There was absolutely no attempt on the manager's part to compromise or offer us some type of acceptable solution (such as a free appetizer...or SOMETHING). The really ridiculous aspect of all of this is that we're talking about a $25 off certificate and we were ready to spend much more than that (especially since this is NOT an inexpensive place to dine). Furthermore, we were the ONLY PEOPLE in the place. Needless to say, we will not return!
Great new lounge menu. These guys recently revamped their entire menu and I'm still drooling over the new eats in the lounge! Happy hour for a couple of beers and a snack (Fried pickles) or a meal (Pastry-wrapped bratwurst! or cheese-stuffed chicken strips) and I'm much happier than in one of the over-crowded meat market bars on the adjacent E. 4th St.!
A business-class nip and nibble in a historic setting..
A century ago, this five-story arcade anchored a carriage-class Millionaires Row; today, a snazzy Hyatt Hotel pays homage to that industrial past. Paintings of lift bridges set the mood in this lunch-bunch powerhouse, where red pepper crab cakes open the negotiations, and veal medallions close the deal. After work, the business class saunters to the cigar bar for a Macanudo and a lobster salad sandwich on challah bread that a Rockefeller could love.
