A friend and I decided to have Sunday brunch at Lucky?s. It was our first visit and I very much wanted to find my new favorite weekend breakfast spot. Boy, was I let down!
The restaurant itself is cozy and, even on a Sunday morning, was bustling with locals. Beside the restaurant is a beautiful garden with flowers and fresh vegetables ? the garden is where we chose to eat.
I ordered the ?Shipwreck? (like a casserole of hash browns, eggs, vegetables, bacon, and cheddar cheese) WITHOUT hash browns. However, when our food came my shipwreck had hash browns mixed into it to the point that they were impossible to pick out. When I brought this mistake to our waiter?s attention, he responded: ?oh, they don?t do special requests.? I feel that at the beginning of the process, when I placed my order, was the time to tell me this. Not after our table's food arrived. I told this to the waiter who checked with the kitchen to see if they would make an exception ? they refused.
Lucky?s is not a horrible place to eat. My friend enjoyed her homemade biscuits and gravy quite a bit and, again, the garden really is a wonderful place to sit and have a meal. I suggest that you look at their menu online (luckyscafe dot com) before visiting. There you will see some creative and unique dishes. If any of them look good to you EXACTLY as they are written, give Lucky?s a go. But if your satisfaction or health depends on a even a simple removal from what is printed on the menu go someplace else!
Tremont has an eclectic selection to please any foodie. My friend and I will skip Lucky?s and try another Tremont brunch stop next time we?re in the area.
- Pros: A garden seating area and creative menu.
- Cons: Kitchen refuses to remove ingredients due to preference or medical need.
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE

There was a very long line with no organization of where people were supposed to stand. The service was apathetic at best. The breakfast was very expensive for what we got, especially considering the "affordable" rating. I cannot have dairy (severe lactose intolerance) and when I asked for the omelette without cheese (not a substitution or something complicated) they told me there were no substitutions or special orders, even for food allergies. I was told I could eat the pancakes or tofu sautee (which I don't eat), so I ordered the pancakes, and they were covered in whipped cream (a milk product). Additionally, my boyfriend is severely allergic to gluten, and so he was told he could only have the tofu "canoe- wreck." Even this was touching a pile of toast (has gluten) and for him even if things are touching they can often set him off. When he asked for ketchup, he was literally given a bowl with less than a tablespoon of ketchup in it. Everything was unhealthy- my boyfriend's toast was drenched in butter, my pancakes were soaked in honey, caramel, whipped cream and syrup, and in the end, there was no warning on the website or the menu that there were no substitutions removals. The excuse we were given was the it was a small kitchen and they were busy. I have worked in several restaurants with even smaller kitchens, were just as busy, and it was never a problem to eliminate something as easy as cheese in an omelette. Considering our breakfast was $35, and we didn't enjoy any of it (because we couldn't eat it) it was an overall incredibly disappointing experience.
- Pros: none
- Cons: prices, bad attitude, nothing for food intolerances, no substitutions or exclusions for allergies, food very unhealthy
