Best Avoided. Skid-row clientele and an atmosphere that makes you fear for your life.

I had to spend some time in Middlefield last month. I like pub-grub sitting at the bar with a beer when I have to eat alone.

So, I sat at the bar and ordered food and a beer. Shortly thereafter, a couple with a child came in and sat at a nearby table to have dinner. The loudmouth, headache-inducing, barmaid took their order and proceeded to go into a shtick of profanities as if she were an Asian prostitute. "OOOOH ME LOVE YOU LONG TIME"... that kind of thing. Only the language got much worse... even though there was a child present.

Then, while this was all going on one of the more colorful denizens started to chat me up. The guy looked like a bum and just plain smelled. My dinner didn't even come before he was trying to sell me drugs.

There are only a couple other places in this small town to set at the bar and have a beer. But they are nice. You need to consider one of those first.
