Discriminate against single senior women

by Cindi LaCorte at Citysearch

First time I have dined alone and never had a server ask if "everything's okay". Chicken Parmesan had no sauce. I wanted to ask for sauce, but not once did anyone come to ask me. Waited longer than acceptable to ask for a take home box and the check. Guess when you dine alone, you're not valued as a customer. The salad tasted "old" and like "plastic". Chicken was dry. Sauce on the pasta tasted like cinnamon. I'll never go back.

Great as always

by chevy10318 at Citysearch

I have ate at Frankie's for as long as I can remember. The pizza is the BEST pizza around---- as long as you eat it after 5pm M-F. I have found it is not as good earlier in the day. I also love their sandwiches!

  • Pros: Pizza
  • Cons: The clock is important

Frankie's falters

by darrylb at Citysearch

I've lived on the West Side for years, and have seen Frankie's go through its ups and downs. Up until recently, it had been THE place for good pizza if you were anywhere near North Olmsted.

But now Frankie's is going through one of its "down" periods. The three take-out pizzas I've had from them in the last three months were, in order, "just OK", "Not-so-good", and "downright BAD." The last one had no detectable sauce, was undercooked, too greasy (and I speak as one who doesn't mind a fairly greasy pie) and as if to make up for the lack of sauce, big gobs of half-melted mozarella scattered about the surface.

Maybe it's new ownership or new manager-- I don't know. I do know that I won't be going back there anytime soon. I hate to dis a neighborhood institution, and to be fair I didn't try any of their non-pizza offerings. But if they are willing to serve such a horrible pizza, I can't imagine that their rigatoni, say, would be much better.

  • Pros: Neighborhood Institution
  • Cons: On the skids

Decent food, horrific service

by rjack84217 at Citysearch

My girlfriend, a doctoral student, used to live in Ohio. She often talked about Frankie's, so during a recent trip to visit her parents, she, I, and one of her friends decided to have dinner there. I'm all about supporting local businesses, so I fully intended to order a three-course meal.

There were fewer than ten parties dining in the entire restaurant, but our server was absent for the first 20 minutes that we sat in our booth. She never actually gave her name -- I only saw "Colleen" on the receipt.

Colleen didn't refill my water for an hour even though the drink dispenser was just a few steps away from our table. When she did refill it, she DIDN'T BRING IT BACK. Colleen took it to a man sitting with the party behind us. He protested, as did I. Colleen got angry and told him that if he had changed his mind and wanted a new drink, he was welcome to order one.

Since I didn't have a drink, I skipped the wings I had ordered. (My girlfriend said they were subpar.) In the meantime, Colleen brought the wrong salads for my girlfriend and her friend. When they asked for the right food, Colleen brought extra salad dressing.

After an hour and a half, neither my party nor the one behind us had our entrees, so the man behind us tracked down Colleen to cancel their order. Colleen argued with him for several minutes, saying that it was "almost ready." He finally took their food to go.

I got my refill when I was halfway through my cold ravioli. For the rest of the meal, Colleen 1) vanished for long periods, and 2) sat at one of the nearby booths, loudly whining to fellow servers and customers about her job. I refilled my party's drinks as she watched.

Needless to say, we skipped dessert. A half-hour after we finished eating, Colleen brought the check.

It's possible that Colleen is the sole bad server at Frankie's. I don't know, and I'm not going back to find out. If you visit Frankie's and your server is an aging brunette, ask for her name. If it's Colleen, ask for another server.

  • Pros: Food wasn't great, but acceptable.
  • Cons: Insulting service. Waitress, Colleen, appeared intoxicated.

Great food, but...

by jmpstrt1969 at Citysearch

My husband and I and another couple bowl together 2 a month. We enjoy our time together and enjoy great food.

I am a stay at home mom and clip coupons, even for dining out.

When I came across coupons for Frankie's, excitement set in! Love the bread, salad and most anything on their menu! But, since it was Sweetest Day(not a national legal holiday) coupons wouldn't be accepted! NO WHERE ON A SIGN, COUPON , ETC. was this mentioned!

We weren't even aware of this "holiday"! Not something

we celebrate.

I wanted to leave....but, everyone else wanted to stay.

I wanted to cause a scene, but I held my tongue!

SO....Frankie's gets an A for its food, but an F for failing to save customers money, even on a "HOLIDAY!

  • Pros: warm, yummy bread
  • Cons: refused to honor our coupon
