Decent fare at modest prices, this 22-year-old Mexican testament endures among flashy Lorain Road chains..
The Scene
Although the dishes surpass the mediocre standards of chain-restaurant giants, El Charro's atmosphere, a somewhat shabby melange of south-of-the-border decor, is in dire need of a makeover. But the vast menu offers everything from a la carte burritos and enchiladas (priced at a meager $2.99 each) to house specialties that barely exceed a 10 spot. While El Charro isn't garnering raves for presentation skills, the substantial portions and ebullient service make up for the lack of tabletop dazzle.
Who Needs Food?
Arguably more popular than its entrees, El Charro features no less than 25 flavored margaritas, from the tame peach to the bitter grimis, a rasberry-blueberry blend. Cuidado! These refreshing cocktails only look innocuous: If you sample more than one, you might want to call a cab.
Margaritas and Manilow
During the week, suburbanites flock to El Charro's cantina for drink and appetizer specials, such as half-priced tacos, 15-cent wings and discount margaritas. On Thursday and Saturday karaoke nights, revelers from the harmonious to the hellacious strain their pipes to the tunes of everything from ABBA to Zeppelin.
things that make you go mmm!. Nuevo gets all the attention, but this is the best kept secret on the west side! Our El Charro experience was muy delicioso. We had a table of 10 for dinner & everyone said mmmm!
WASTE OF MONEY. Oh my... this is what they call Mexican food? Dust the chandliers - serve something other than tomato soup for salsa - and get someone who wants to work there that won't give you an attitude. Don't waste your time or money -
