Danish, Sleek and Cool
Modern House is full of elegant packages: Avian chairs with a cone table and a Russel Wright dinnerware set to the right; a Widdicomb dresser by T.H. Robsjohn Gibbings to the left. The shop's very accessible owners, Dan Zusy and Michael Roberston, have been in the area for 14 years, specializing in decorative arts and furniture, studio pottery and glass, lighting, prints and paintings.
Modern Hosue concentrates on furnishings from the '40s and '50s, but is interested in designs of the '20s and '30s, as well. The store has an excellent selection of George Nelson-designed Herman Miller clocks.
The shop's clientele is largely in the 40- to 60-year-old age range, not necessarily because the younger generation can't afford the prices, but because older customers remember when the resurfaced cold European look made its first appearance.
