Editorial Review for Badawang Art – by Tim Piai
The Scene
This tiny room in an old schoolhouse welcomes most visitors to worlds never seen. Despite owner Carol Schoffmann's intimate setting, the gallery carries a scope unchallenged (and unattempted) by even the largest competitors. Adorning the racks and the shelves is a unique collection of jewelry, scarves, clothing, crafts and accessories from locations such as Nepal, China and Timor.
Wares
The global mix includes handcrafted silver and beaded jewelry from Indonesia, India, Tibet and Afghanistan; hand-painted silk scarves from Nepal; Batik silk, chiffon and rayon from Indonesia; embroidered blankets and shawls from Bhutan; and Barong masks from Timor. With cooking classes and multi-media projects making frequent special appearances, Badawang Art looks more and more like an American original.
