Founded in 1920 to provide a world-class musical education to Greater Cleveland children..
The Scene
In this remarkable program, school-aged children have the opportunity to play in a string orchestra, percussion ensemble and the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony for the public. The Preparatory and Continuing Education Division offers private lessons in Dalcroze Eurhythmics, Suzuki Method of Learning, Piano and Organ, Guitar, Voice, Musicianship Theory and all orchestral instruments. Ensembles are on Saturday mornings, which includes the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony, Percussion Ensemble and Beginning and Preparatory Orchestra.
The Shows
Instruction aside, it's the institute's regular free concerts that have attracted Cleveland natives and visitors alike over the past seven decades. Management advises arriving at the concerts and recitals early, as seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis. The institute also offers a special family series of concerts to expose younger children to the performing arts.
Deep Thoughts
A nugget of CIM wisdom for parents who are introducing their children to the arts: "If you basically don't like the sound of the violin, pretend you do."
