Incense burns and Ravi Shenkar-inspired music chimes; a helpful clerk pops up from his back-alley cigarette break and with a sly smile asks, "How's it goin'?". Among the psychedelically colored tapestries and well, everything else, little dancing bears laugh, somehow making you feel as if you're being watched.

Skull candlesticks share display-case secrets with gargoyle candles. A rainbow of T-shirts displaying familiar yet slightly off-kilter corporate logos make you scratch your head. And don't turn around too quickly: Shawls and dresses left over from the shootings at Kent will practically reach out to grab at your wallet. The right CDs, water pipes, clothes and accessories are all available, along with a great many things made from hemp. Best of all, there's a doughnut shop right down the street.
