Nice fish. This is the small cozy restaurant typical of west side. The menus are a bit more reasonable in price than the standard in town. However, the food is excellent. We went on a Saturday night, without reservation. The manager squeezed us in and did not rush us even though we knew the next reservation was less than 1 1/2 hour away. Waiter was professional and prompt. So I like the service. The bread was good, as was the dipping (a sign of a good place). Letsee, the mussels we ordered as well as the soups were above standard (ie Blue point). My fish was fresh and excellently done. Nothing dramatic, but definitely well worth the money. The dessert was outstanding and creative. Perhaps not as fancy as the showy sugar/chocolate 3D stuff out there, but the taste is definitely in. Overall, I enjoyed the romantic and cozy atmosphere of this place as well as service, quality of food and cost. It's a good enough reason to find someone to dine with again.

Satisfying Northern Italian classics to pique both the tastebuds and the imagination.. The Scene
Located in an urban district known for its onion-dome churches, Russian heritage and exotic nightlife, Fat Cats draws a steady, professional downtown office-tower clientele. The two-person tables are a bit too large for romantic whispering, but the decor is sleek and inviting, and the location is good for groups on their way to Playhouse Square, Jacobs Field or the after-dark club circuit.

The Food
The delights are in the details: truffle-mushroom butter is served with the filet mignon, parsnip puree with the loin of lamb; the seared foie gras appetizer is the kind of food to write home about. (Even people who don't go for the idea of foie gras have been heard to agree.) There's no need to hype the pasta dishes--magazines such as "Bon Appetit" already have. Favorites include a vegetable-rich ziti primavera with a creamy tomato sauce, delicious with a select red from the well-matched wine cellar.
