A Classic!. Everyone has their favorite Steakhouse, this is mine. They just do it right. Service is prompt and friendly and the steaks thick and juicy with out all the fuss. I'd pick John Q's over any of the high-end corporate/chain places any day!
Agree with the disapointing reviews. This place is a joke. Your are better off going to outback for 1/3 price. Service was terrible and slow. Food was flat. Felt like i was eating steak at a diner.
Best steak in town. My wife and I selected this restaurant by recommendation from the hotel we were staying at. We were happy we came. The steaks were fantastic. The service was pleasing, personal and not stuffy. We will go back the next time we are in town!
Waxes and Wanes? Or just bad?. Reading other reviews after eating here makes me wonder if we were in the same place! The artichoke appetizer arrived sans artichoke, consisting of flatbread and mayonnaise--very UN-appetizing. I ordered a strip steak; it was cooked right, but it didn't matter, it was the most tasteless steak I have ever had. I have had better $ 5.00 steaks at Ponderosa, and this bland wonder cost me $ 30.00! My sister had prime rib, which was "all right", but who want's to pay this kind of money for "all right"? i can buy a prime rib and do it at home and end up with much better! VERY DISAPPOINTED; Is this place this inconsistent? I'd rather have an "average" that can be counted on than a place that waxes and wanes.
Stay Away.
We recently had a mid-week business dinner at John Q's.
Restaurant was perhaps 40% occupied.
After the wine was poured, I noticed that it tasted "stale".
Turns out the bottle had a long crack in it and the wine had spoiled.
No refund offered.
Two of us ordered our steaks with NO CHAR.
OOPS, sorry about the char. We can re-do your steaks, if you wish.
Sure, what about the other 4 people who now have their entres?
Go to the Cleveland Chop House or Morton's instead.
Prime beef and a prime location elevate this spot beyond its common-man name..
In Short
The cattle drive sprawls across three spacious rooms that fill at lunch and stay full through the duration. This upscale steakhouse has a way with prime beef, and understated swank dishes thrive (at least until they're served) on this busy corner of Public Square. While the beef councils have tried to make their product into another consumer-friendly dinner choice, John Q's does steak the old-fashioned way: thick, sizzling and fiercely tasty.
Extremely disappointing. An old tired sports bar with steak house prices for strip mall food. Lacked any sort of flair in food quality or preparation. They were unable to cook a strip steak to medium rare despite two attempts. The delmonico steak was all of a half inch thick.
Absolutely a Great Night. My wife and I went to John Q's on a whim a few nights ago, before an Indians game. Though we are both lifelong Clevelanders, we had never been to John Q's before - though we had passed by it countless times over the years. Needless to say, I'm glad we decided to stop in, I could not give a stronger recommendation. This might just be the best restaurant in Cleveland. The steak was incredible and the service was impeccable. Our waitress went out of her way to make sure everything was just right for us - it was such a nice change of pace. We'll definitely be going back again.
A+pricesC-results. A nice Atmosphere, but avergae food served at room temperature with poor service. They served an ice cold cup of coffee. How is that possible at what is supposed to be a top notch spot? If you are going to spend the money, go to Morton's or Johnny's. John Q's is all hype!
Definitely John Q's Is The Best!.
I have been to most of the steak houses in town and there is no question that John Qs stands head and shoulders above the others. Why you ask? Well Ill tell you why!
One, their not overpriced like Hyde Park or Mortons.
Two, the quality of beef is excellent!
Three, Ive never had a bad experience there!
And four, most other restaurants have managers around, at John Qs you have an owner present.
