Once a home to politicians and entrepreneurs, now an upscale Queen Anne. – The Scene
This red brick Queen Anne mini-mansion is at the corner of West 28th and tree-lined Jay Avenue, where Victorian cottages have been rehabbed into a cohesive, upscale neighborhood. Clifford House has operated as an Ohio City neighborhood B&B for just a few years, having long been home to local politicians and entrepreneurs. The two guestrooms are furnished with antiques--the third-floor room has a private bath, sitting area, fireplace and refrigerator and the second-floor room shares a bath with the owner. Both are moderately priced for a near-downtown location. Within a few blocks you'll find a gourmet prix fixe restaurant, a wine bar, a brewpub, a neighborhood spot venerated for its creative burgers and a "world cafe" and juice bar.
Although it is now a formal Queen Anne, this location started as a two-story Tuscany style residence built by Albert Worthington in 1868. It experienced widespread renovation in 1891 by John Schneider, who owned a brewery in Ohio City.
