Cheers in Cleveland - Where everybody knows your name!. The friendliest of a 3 bar/restaurant, before Indians games, corner! No longer Jim Alesci's, just plain ALESCI'S DOWNTOWN!!! Owned and run by Gina Alesci and managed, very well, by Jeff. They have great food and a very family atmosphere. When my wife and I first walked in the door we felt at home. That was about 8 years ago, and we haven't gone to the other 2 places since. This is the place where most of the worker at the Indians ballpark come to before and after the game. A great lunch crowd during the week, and quick, A cafeteria(sp?) style bar atmosphere and real friendly!! A great place to meet before the game!!
Speedy service and some of downtown Cleveland's greatest pizza..
The Scene
It's small, you'll have to wait in line for counter service and the selection is somewhat limited. But for great pizza, simple pasta dishes and sandwiches, Jim Alesci's is one of Gateway's best bets.
The Selection
The food is served in large portions on Styrofoam plates, for booth seating or to go. The pizza slices are thick, square and rarely anything other than hot and delicious. The rigatoni with marinara or meat sauce is a good deal, and the iceberg lettuce salad may not be fancy, but it's fresh. There's also a selection of sandwiches, entrees and desserts.
The Bar
The bar area is tiny, but there's a TV set for those who don't have game tickets or are running late. While there's nothing unusual about the mixed drinks and beers served here, the canned soda and soft-drink selection is better than most. There's also a nice outdoor space for communing with nature and other fans. Order inside and carry your plate out to the sidewalk.
