Editorial Review for Ginza Sushi and Steak House – by John Hyduk

The Scene
Even when there's no game at the nearby Jacobs Field or Gund Arena, this small temple to raw fish and rolled rice cakes does a pretty good business by drawing some of the more sophisticated tastebuds in Cracker Jack land. Japanese students and businessmen used to make up the bulk of the Ginza's regulars, but it's not unusual to find Clevelanders from all walks of life here confidently moving chunks of raw octopus and tuna, decorated like precious gems, from plate to palate.

Foreign Devil Barbarians Welcome
The most interesting interface comes when Wahoo-clad fanatics looking for sustenance other than brats and beer crowd the simply decorated room before the first pitch. (You won't miss a thing: A TV at the end of the sushi counter blares the pre-game show.) Standard cutlery and even fingers are an option if you haven't played chopsticks in years.

This restuarant is recommended only for sushi. We called ahead, and asked if they served a hibachi style dinner to which they confirmed. However, the dinner was way below par. Would not recommend for Hibachi style dinner, as they have only one table and a untrained chef.

Pros: Sushi

Cons: Not Hibachi recommend

2 Star Rating: Below Average

Don't know what other reviewers saw in this place, but I found everything decidedly below par. Miso soup too salty, salad dressing with ginger dressing too sweet, pickled ginger tasted similarly sugary, tried several pieces of sashimi: toro (too chewy), saba (tasted like herring), hamachi (fair) and giant clam (ok). Grilled salmon way too salty and dry, with only a few grilled veggies to boot. Service friendly, but unfortunately the sushi was just not up to my usual standard. Even their green tea sucked.

Pros: friendly service, not too crowded

Cons: , grilled fish poor, limited choices
