This Star has fallen. I recently went to a show at the Palace Theater. I thought the Star Restaurant at Playhouse would be the perfect spot to have a light meal before the show. It was a weekday show, and the Star was mostly empty. I asked the hostess if I could choose a table in the bar or if I needed to wait to be seated. No wait was necessary. So I selected a table and I waited. And I waited and waited. 15 minutes went by, and still not even an acknowledgement from the hostess or the wait staff. Other tables were waited on, but not me. And there are only 6 or 8 tables in the bar... So after another 10 minutes of being 'invisible,' I left. Not a word from any staff member. What a horrible experience. I ended up having to buy a hot pretzel at the theater. I would definitely not recommend the Star to anyone. There are other choices nearby. Take some extra time and choose anything but the Star!

The way to Carnegie Hall might still be practice, but anyone with a flair for dramatic food can tread these boards.. The Scene
Ciao Cucina is the restaurant/bar nestled in the Ohio theater lobby at Playhouse Square, a space that's had more incarnations than Shirley MacLaine. During the day, the space that once trumpeted the appearance of Burns and Allen and Valentino's new flick is rich with cell phone- and shoulder pad-types, cutting deals and salads. Quitting time brings the desk jockeys' return, this time with hungry friends. When the theatres' marquees are lit, though, it's strictly white tie and lobster tails.

The Menu
Try the roasted lobster diablo, with a tomato sauce that approaches napalm level. Skip the Asian barbecue duck breast with duck leg confit and soy sauce; it's certain flavor overkill. A jazz combo serenades on weekends, so you might want to polish up your soft-shoe routine.
