Tried to sell unnecessary repairs. My wife brought our Dyson vacuum cleaner to this store to see about replacing the exhaust seals, which after nearly five years of use were no longer seating correctly. She also brought in a small vacuum cleaner that was no longer turning on, just to see if it was worth fixing.

The counter staff said the small vac wasn't worth repairing, which was fine.

However, rather than selling my wife the part we needed for the Dyson, the sales clerk began lecturing my wife about how bagless vacuums are inferior, and then began manhandling the Dyson vacuum, banging it around and flipping it over, while telling her everything that was "wrong" with it. He (incorrectly) said that the gaskets couldn't be replaced; a whole exhaust assembly would need to be ordered. He also advised replacement of both filters (despite the fact that they are LIFETIME filters) and said the roller brush needed to be replaced. Total cost: $250!!

When she asked if she could just buy the seals or have that portion of the repair done, he refused. Of course, Mr. Personality said he would be happy to do all of the work or sell her a new vacuum cleaner.

Despite the fact that my wife was 8 months pregnant, and with a 3 year old in tow and two vacuum cleaners, he didn't offer any help getting the vacs back to her car, or even offer to hold the door for her.

But here's the kicker. When I heard this story, I called Dyson.

Our vacuum still had 3 weeks left on the warranty, so Dyson sent out the three seals that we needed for free (they only cost about $2 apiece online anyhow). Within five days I received the seals and replaced them. In addition, I removed the roller brush and cleaned the string and dog hair from it, then put it back in.

Our vacuum cleaner works as good as new, and it didn't cost a dollar.

The rude demeanor of the staff is one thing, but trying to milk $250 of repairs when all someone needed were three rubber gaskets is simply dishonest.
