Hit or Miss. We go to this place often. The first time I ordered the dal maharani it was fabulous, with a complex flavor and plenty of spice. Today it seemed spicy enough, but the overall flavor seemed flat. I had a strong urge to ask for salt, soy sauce, anything to help out. My companion's navaratana currry was pretty good, if spiced a bit lightly for me. I liked the sagg gosht and shrimp curry at various times, and most of the time it's spicy enough. But, once when I told the server "medium spicy," I tasted no spice at all and was very disappointed. I'm not Indian, but I grew up in So. Cal, so spice is not as much a novelty for me as for the typical clientele Cafe Tandoor seems to think it has. I am tempted to draw out a spice scale and bring it in every time I go.…
Worst Indian Food.
We just moved to Cleveland and wanted some good indian food. We read the reviews and decided to go.
Well - It was the worst indian food we have ever had. I have eaten at many indian food places and I am from india. This had to be the worst.
We ordered Paneer Makhani - it was just paneer with tamato paste.
Aloo Zeera had no Zeera or spices
Vegeterian Shahlick was boiled veggis on rice with no flavor or taste.
We spent $50 on food and it was not worth more than $10.00…
Worst Restaurant. After reading all the reviews here, I chose to go to this restaurant during my visit to cleveland. Ambience was good. The food was so horrible and too expensive for such a bad quality of the food. I ordered Malai kofta. They brought the Malai kofta straight from the freezer and added some sause to it. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.…
Best Indian Food in the Greater Cleveland Area. I have lived in the Cleveland area for over 30 years, am of Indian descent, and have been to every Indian joint in Ohio more times than I care for. Cafe Tandoor is hands down the best place for Indian food in the Greater Cleveland area. If you want an all you can eat buffet with bland food that cater to the fattest people in America go to Saffron Patch or the like. Cafe Tandoor is a quality place, and everything is ordered a la carte. Order the butter chicken (hot), gobi masala (medium-hot), some onion kulcha, saffron rice, and a decent bottle of wine or simply a salty lassi, and you will not be disappointed.…
Best Indian food in Cleveland.
I love this place - as has everyone I've ever taken to it. The chicken tikka is my favorite, with the saffron (basmati) rice...fantastic! The presentation of the food is top-notch - dishes come out
on a rolling cart, still sizzling from the kitchen, and the plates are heated so that your food stays warm as you serve yourself from the platters. The food is NOT bland, not at all.
Previous negative review in no way has EVER been my experience, although I am not a vegetarian. This can be a romantic restaurant, especially at night when the lights are lowered and the candles are lit. Service has always been fine, and the value is great - that chicken tikka ends up being three meals for me!…
