Tips for Pearl Of The Orient

December 16, 2012

When I first relocated to Shaker we tried the restaurant based on online reviews and were woefully UNDERWHELMED by the quality and taste of the food. We decided to try them again, maily because its almost impossible to get any carryout food in shaker on sundays that isn't pizza. They don;t open until 5. We called at 6pm, were placedon hold, they never came back. We called back 3 times and were hung up on, while on hold, EACH time. we tried again one final time, and the girl who answered the phone didn;t apologize, just said,"we're very busy right now!" i asked to speak to the owner, and was hung up on again. with hte food being MEDIOCRE AT BEST, the LEAST they can do is offer acceptabel customer service. this is not the case, probably because we are a captive clientele.

The East Side's Best Chinese Restaurant. The pearl has been an east side staple for as long as I can remember.

Nothing has changed: quality ingredients, simple, comfort food, that's not too heavy, not too salty, not too oily, and very flavorful. I've been a regular there for the past 15 some odd years, and have tried just about everything. I usually just get the pad thai with shrimp and chicken; it's my go to favorite meal. But if you want to try something different I also love the cursted pork in Hoisuin barbecue sauce- its an awesome summer dish. The portions are big enough to share (at dinner time) so I come with friends or family and we just order a couple dinner entrees and split a fried rice.

They have the best wonton soup and the best shrimp fried rice in cleveland. And that's just a simple fact, Go to any other chinese restaurant in Cleveland, then compare their wonton soup and fried rice to the pearl's...and you will see that there really is no comparison.

Best kept secret in Cleveland and Shaker Heights. We started going to the Pearl of the Orient restaurant when I was 7 years old. It was my parents' favorite restaurant. I remember when my father got older and more frail by the day, the owner Rose Wong would customize his favorite dishes due to the very restrictive diet he had to adhere to. I am 32 yrs old now and I frequent the Pearl. with my two children. The restaurant has maintained it's high standards in both quality of food and service. Best of all, the attention to detail and customer satisfaction is rare in today's restaurants industry.

Best Chinese on the East Side!. We've made Pearl of the Orient a regular. Everything is fresh and prepared to perfection. We usually opt for take-out, but dining in is always a pleasure, too.

This Shaker Heights gem is modest by design but exceptional by taste.. The Scene
The East Side Pearl's multi-level dining room is a spotless, "lite-rock" version of traditional Chinese motifs, a late '70s-chic atmosphere designed for diner demographics that range as far as the Great Wall. Besides an occasional pesky server (seemingly required by law on the East Side), the Pearl experience is excellent, and the balanced dishes consistently delicious.

The Food
A consummate guardian of the tastes and textures of haute Chinese cuisine, the Pearl fills a well-dressed clientele with honey-dipped pork and seafood hot pots. Choosing one of the house specialties requires a quick lesson in upscale-Americanized-Chinese-food speak: Happy Couple joins seared scallops and beef tenderloin tips in oyster-sauce bliss; the table-side preparation called Triple Delight blends land and sea meats in brown garlic sauce.
