Lacking in Professionalism

Me and my husband purchased a house needed some inexpensive furniture...stopped in elgins first off the sales lady lisa was very pushy but its her job to sell....okay then so we pick out a living room set which she said consisted of a Couch, Love Seat, and 2 end tables...As for delivery costs it was to high so we picked up our own items and thank goodness for that after reading some of these reviews. once my husband goes to pick items up there's no tables..we call and question the fact that there missing...lisa tells us she never said we were receiving tables, which was totally false...She argues with us and says that since we didn't receive tables they would make our monthly payment cheaper than original, which I would assume so since the original quoted price included endtables as well.

A few months down the road my husband was slow in his real estate business for a few months so we were late on our payments, he goes back to work...when we come to within one payment of being on time a young lady from the financial dept offer us to come in sign new documentation to refinance our entire loan and implies that it will make our monthly payment cheaper. I ask how much cheaper, will there be any additional finance charges, will this extend or terms, will you have to run our credit again etc....she responds saying I'M TRYING TO HELP YOU OUT, okay more regret......I said I understand I'm just trying to clarify a few things If she was trying to help us great answer my questions, if not.....your trying to scam more money from us for a longer period of time. I requested to speak to a manager she says there no one else for me to speak with besides her..it ended with the account representative hanging up on me.

I called back to speak with a manager and I got connected to the Finance Acct Manager at Elgins she to could not give us answers except that they would finance but shouldn't need to run our credit again......

I honestly would like to just say the actual living room set was nice and it's still nice a year and a half later it's just that the customer service was poor from the begining with the unnecessary lies I would say to get a sale. Customer service is a vital part of any company and hopefully all the reviews that I've read primarily from this location will get the attention of some one at Elgins to make some changes.

FURNITURE IS JUNK, HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE W/OWNER (JED)

BOUGHT MATCHING LIVING ROOM SET FEB. 09. WITHIN 8 WEEKS RECLINER SETS BUCKLING UP, PADDING WEARING OUT OF THE ARMS OF RECLINERS, ONE MAKES A CLUNKING SOUND.

WENT TO THE STORE, TOLD THEM WHATS GOING ON. REFERRED TO :"IRENE". SHE WAS NOT PLEASANT TO DEAL WITH. FORWARDED OUR COMPLAINT TO "HER SUPERVISOR" .

THEY SENT OUT A REPAIR MAN TO LOOK AT THE CHAIRS. THE ONE WHERE THE PADDING WAS SHOT AND SEAT TERRIBLY BUCKLED, HE SAID WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED.

THE OTHER CHAIR, THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS THE SEAT WAS BUCKLING TOO, BUT HE THOUGHT THAT THE ONE ARM NEEDED MORE STUFFING, SO ONWARD HE WENT! THE FURNITURE IS COCOA BROWN, AND HE THREADED IT WITH LIGHT TAN THREAD! (NOW THIS IS WHO THE PRESIDENT, JED, CLAIMS IN A LETTER TO US) JED SAID "WAREHOUSE MANAGER" (THE REPAIR MAN) SAID IN HIS OPINION THE DAMAGE WAS DONE TO HEAVY USAGE ON NOT MANUFACTURER DEFECT ON THE CHAIRS.

THEN, IN THE SAME LETTER, JED SAYS "EVEN AFTER LEARNING WEAR WAS NOT DUE TO MANUFACTURER DEFECT BUT "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR"

HIS OFFER WAS TO REFUND THE MONIES FOR THE 2 CHAIRS.

THEN WE GOT AN OFFER TO GO PICK OUT TWO CHAIRS IF WE WANT, BUT....THEY CAN NOT BE ROCKERS, ROCKER/RECLINERS!!! THATS WHAT WE WANTED AND BOUGHT THE FIRST TIME!

THEN WE GET A CALL JUNE 20, WE CAN PICK OUT A NEW SET OF FURNITURE WITHIN THE PRICE RANGE WE PAID FOR OUR FIRST SET.

SO ON WE WENT. WHEN WE FIRST GOT THERE A REP ASSISTED US. DIDN'T KNOW US, BUT WHEN WE MENTIONED OUR NAME "OOOHHHH THE TWO RECLINERS"!

WE PICKED OUT A SET, GOT THE DELIVERY DAY SET UP, 2 HOURS AFTER LEAVING THE STORE WE GET A CALL...IT WAS AN ERROR THAT WE ALLOWED TO PICK OUT A SET, THAT IT WAS TO BE STAND ALONE CHAIRS ONLY~

NOTHING WOULD MATCH OUR SET.

LEFT A MESSAGE ON JUNE 24 TO JUST REFUND ALL OUR MONIES.

THIS IS A NIGHTMARE AND FAR FROM OVER.

PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT BUY FROM ELGIN.

(WE TOOK PICTURES IN TO THE BROADWAY STORE SO THEY CAN SEE THE DEPLORABLE CONDITION OF THE CHAIRS)

(ALSO, ANY EMPLOYEE WE TOLD THE STORY TOO, ASKED WHO THE "REPAIR MAN WAS" WE DESCRIBED HIM AND EVERY SINGLE PERSON, WHERE BY FACE OR PHONE CHUCKLED....MADE IT VERY VERY CLEAR HE IS NOT A QUALIFIED REPAIR PERSON.

ELGIN FURNITURE CONTINUES TO BE VERY UNCOOPERATIVE WITH THEIR CUSTOMERS.

DO NOT BUY FROM THEM....

I WILL CONTINUE MY STORY WHEN THIS ALL COMES TO AN END.

DO NOT even think of buying furniture here!

TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! DO NOT BUY FROM ELGIN!!!

I admit, a few weeks ago when I looked on this very site and read about Elgin, I thought the negative reviews may have been a bit sensationalized so we decided to go ahead and buy from them......Then we found out for ourselves. All of the negative reviews you read here and elsewhere are 100% right. If you are still thinking I'm nuts...read on.

At Elgin, the prices are cheap for a reason. The furniture is great when you are in the showroom. But they seem to not be able to get them to your house in one piece...You pay them $120(!) to deliver it to your house and when it arrives, it looks like your $3000 living room set was thrown out of the back and dragged all the way to your house.

On the first delivery, all three pieces were damaged. And I am not talking about minor damage. There were huge dents, scuffs, scrapes, cuts in the leather furniture - some of these were very big and down to exposed wood! They said they'd redeliver (which they did after several phone calls - impossible to get a hold of any of their completely apathetic 'service' staff).

So we got to waste another half-day waiting for them to show up with the next set. The chair was brought in and it looked fine. Things are going good....then the sofa came in.....more huge cuts/scrapes! We are not talking about minutia here....you could see it without even bending down by the floor. At this point, we refuse delivery of that piece and ask to get the sofa redelivered. The delivery guys went back out to the truck with that piece and , presumably, to bring in the loveseat (the final piece) but they returned empty-handed and inform us that they are taking everything back to the warehouse and 'ah...i guess you guys are getting a refund'. WHAT?!!!! Apparently they talked with somebody at the warehouse and it was decided that we were just not worth the trouble! So we had become 'problem customers' and were just too much hassle to deal with (even for $3000!)

Oh I'm sorry, maybe it's too much to ask that when I pay 3 grand for a living room set, I actually want it to look like new furniture! I swear we are NOT being picky here....NO ONE in their right mind would accept furniture looking like that. When we called the 'service' guy, Tommy, to inquire about just what the *bleep* they thought they were doing, he basically just agreed with us that it was an issue but refused to do anything about it!!! Would not even get up to go look at the furniture himself! Did not try to amend the situation AT ALL! No offer of apology, no offer to redeliver, NOTHING! Just basically a brush off - get out of my face type of answer... JUST AWFUL!

PLEASE PLEASE do not buy from this place! It will only cause you huge headaches! The WORST SERVICE EVER!!!
