The Scene
What could be better than a huge, rotating Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem Rock-A-Stack to highlight your Christmas shopping? Or a cabinet-sized Play-Doe barbershop kit? A Barbie and Ken townhouse with working elevator? A monstrous, stuffed rhino? A monstrous, plastic Britney Spears? Or dare we suggest a Playstation II? Toys R Us has these things and more ... except maybe the Playstation, at least not right now.
The Fun
The stores are filled with Hard-Hat Pinatas, Dr. Zaius models and Pianosauruses (the original purple dinosaur); toys from Preschool to the latest video games tempt shoppers to "Try me!" or "Squeeze me! I say over 100 Phrases!" The Great Wall of Board Games rivals that of the very best rumpus room. Make sure you're not in a hurry when you stop by, as you'll probably find yourself caught in a whirlwind of memories and forgotten playpen friends.
Bored? Eat!
Ice-cream bars and large bags of iced animal crackers will help quiet the whining at your heels or in your head. (Even after pounding on electronic keyboards and spinning bicycle tires, a little someone is bound to remind you that you've forgotten to buy the one special toy he really, really needed.) Maybe he should read a book. Fortunately, Toys R Us has a nice picture-books section (including the classic Baby Kermie tome, "I Can Go Potty") for just such a situation.
