Something Different
The largest of the Cleveland Metroparks, Brecksville Reservation bills itself as "a study of contrasts," from its oak-hickory forests to its flat floodplain cottonwoods, willows and sycamores. The park is divided by seven glacier-formed gorges, each of which has a distinct variety of soil and sunlight conditions to foster plant growth.
Flowers by the Mile
The reservation has an excellent, extensive system of trails, including a 12-mile section of the Buckeye Trail. Brecksville Metros naturalist David Dvorak recommends starting with the Nature Center, as it is adjacent to a clearly labeled, easy-to-walk wildflower trail and can provide maps for longer hikes. What you'll see, he says, may include some rare foliage--it all depends on how much the deer have missed. And remember, no picking!
