One of America's largest community music schools provides education to everyone, regardless of age, skill, background or means.

Talented Tots
Classes on music and dance are offered to preschoolers and the Suzuki-method is used to teach violin and piano to 3- to 8-year-olds. In addition, the school features Music Explorers and movement (Dalcroze Eurythmics) classes for children ages 3 to 6. Parents may also enroll their children in ballet, drama, kinderdance and tap classes. A Music Builders summer camp is quite popular. The youth orchestra divides into two groups; one devoted to teaching 7- to 11-year-olds, and the more advanced group geared toward 12- to 18-year-olds. The youth orchestra offers free performances to the public throughout the year.

The Structure
The program is arranged around three elements: Lessons in the arts, participation in leadership training sessions, and paid apprenticeships assisting arts instructors in conducting classes. Classes include African dance and drumming, choral singing, modern dance, drama, visual arts and intergenerational programs.

Bonus
The performing arts department offers private lessons as well as classes in a variety of musical styles. An early childhood department even offers a preschool day school. Furthermore the school offers free concerts featuring faculty, students and guest artists.
