Chinese Confusion

by Fengshui7 at Citysearch

Embarrassing this is considered the best Chinese food in Cleveland. I went during lunch around 1:00. We were seated right away with our glasses of waters. Good start. Never gave us any napkins. I had to flag someone down in the middle of my meal to get napkins. The meal - I ordered the Szechwan meal. I asked if I could substitute the white rice for some other rice. All they had was fried rice which was $1.50 more. which was fine. The won ton came out which were good. An egg roll came out for my friend who wanted it with the meal. Okay, whatever. In anticipation of this greatest chinese meal it was below normal. The Szechwan had only a touch of spicy. The vegetables were so overcooked, the shrimp was not good. The fried rice looked like they just took the steamed rice and dumped and stirred something in it. This was actually the worst chinese food I ever had. Afterwards, I was informed that sometimes it's good and sometimes it's bad. Guess we were there during a bad time.

Best Chinese Food in Cleveland

by agourmetlover at Citysearch

Bo Loong has the best Chinese food in Cleveland indeed, no doubt it's an award winning restaurant! I live in Cleveland, but I travel around the world for business occasionally, I've eaten all over the world. Bo Loong gourmet is very authentic, very healthy, fresh and delicious. I am a health conscious person, I am very finicky in terms of what to put in my month. I love Bo Loong's Dim Sum, especially Har Gow, Shiu My and Beef Ball. I could tell all these goodies are made from scratches. You can tell from every bite - naturally fresh flavored. Not many restaurants serve Dim Sum, if they do, frozen Dim Sum are usually served. My favorite items during dinner at Bo Loong are Jumbo Walnut Shrimp with Chef's Dressing and King's Fried Rice. I am a seafood lover, Bo Loong offers many seafood items, some of them are not on the menu because of the seasonal availability. I usually asked the servers for recommendations, and I could order whatever cooking style I prefer. I ordered seafood Fondue once awhile. It's fun. Bo Loong is a Gourmet Heaven!

  • Pros: Food is awesome. Friendly services.

Phenominal!

by FoodGnome at Citysearch

Be careful, after eating here you will compare every Chinese restaurant to this one. My co-workers and i go at least twice a month and have NEVER had a bad meal. They offer a Dim Sum cart for lunch with very reasonable prices however i am stuck on the same three dishes. The Mandarin Beef (#12) which is one of my favorites is a tad spicy but can only be described as "Off the hook!". My wife either gets the Empress Chicken or her absolute favorite WorSue Chicken which she claims is the best in Cleveland. Their menu hosts only one vegetarian dish which one of our friends gets and i swear i hear purring every time he eats it. They have been rated in the top 100 Chinese restaurant in the country and i definitely see why. The atmosphere could use a little freshening up but you don't even notice it after you get your food.

They feature Karaoke in the evening which is supposed to be the best place for karaoke in Cleveland. My wife and i keep saying we are going to go but never do. Many people we have talked to that have gone have raved about it. The restaurant is adorned with fish tanks which is rather creepy but definitely sparks conversation. This is also a great distraction for kids.

It's insanely cheap for lunch (8.00 / person including tip) and very reasonable for dinner. Ignore the reviews from the mall Chinese food lovers and look no further. For Chinese food in Cleveland, this is the best.

  • Pros: food is incredible, service is great. Dim Sum
  • Cons: atmosphere is kinda rough

Great Find for a Business Traveler

by tflucht at Citysearch

What a great place for a dinner! The menu is extensive, listing six or seven pages of options. As a first-timer to the restaurant, I asked the waitstaff for their recommendations. We ended up with potstickers, lobster in black bean with egg, pea pod leaves with broccoli, and E fun noodles.

The potstickers were not the best I've ever had, but they were quite good, and far better than most. The dumplings were thick, substantial, and the filling generous, if a bit mild.

After the potstickers, the waiter brought out a small plate he "wanted us to taste". There were four jumbo shrimp and a bit of broccoli. The shrimp were breaded and fried to perfection, with a sweet sauce studded with candied walnuts. Sweet, too rich to eat much of (due to the walnuts), but a fantastic taste. The broccoli was steamed perfectly, still a bit crisp. This dish was complementary, and a very nice touch.

The lobster was an excellent dish. The lobster was pulled from a tank in the restaurant, and was served to us about twenty minutes later. The lobster was served in the shell, cut up, nicely sauced with a golden sauce dappled with egg and black beans. It was rich, succulent, delicious. The only detriment was it was a bit difficult to get all of the meat from the various bits of shell.

The e fun noodles were even better. I highly recommend this dish. They are extremely long noodles in a savory sauce. I would have preferred a bit of chicken or seafood to further accentuate the flavor, and I will make that adjustment to my order next time.

The pea pod leaves were a new dish for us, and something we would order again. Oddly enough, the leaves taste a bit like peas. Order this as a different vegetable dish.

We were too full for dessert, and could of easily fed two people from our leftovers. The portions are large; service great!

  • Pros: The food, the service
  • Cons: Traditional Chinese restaurant decor

Most Over-Rated Chinese, but you'll check it out anyway for some reason...

by goteenb at Citysearch

This is a relatively authentic Chinese restaurant and as a result the food will not taste good to people who are used to Americanized Chinese food. We tried two meals, an appetizer, and soup. Everything was subpar and we could not stomach the meals. They had a very unappealing consistency and an general "fishy" smell and aftertaste, even on noodles. Basically, know what you are getting into if you go here.

The restaurant itself is very ugly inside and has some filthy aquariums, some of which do not appear to work. There was an old man in the corner cutting green beans and coughing/sneezing on the food. The staff was huddled in the corner and was not attentive or helpful. If you like "normal" Chinese food, try China Sea on W 6th or Playhouse Square.

DIm Sum!! Yum Yum!!

by jennafly at Citysearch

How excited was I that I could order these tasty little delicacies by the half dozen?! I read the comments about the "60's", but trust me, decor notwithstanding, the food here is excellent! I really love the dim sum, but have enjoyed the traditional full entrees/appetizers here, too, such as mai fun and the piping hot soup with the chinese broccoli in it. Too delicious. Yeah, parking is a pain, but no pain, no gain here... well worth the extra effort!

  • Pros: Authentic chinese food, great variety, can eat pretty cheap
  • Cons: parking

Bo Loong is great, and let's leave the restuarant reviews to people who eat real food

by raindogx at Citysearch

One of the above reviewers criticized Bo Loong, then suggested readers try P.F. Chang's instead. You may as well order Chinese food at McDonald's. I went to a P.F. Chang's once. The staff were rude, the portions small, and there was an enormous piece of RAW CHICKEN SKIN--most likely contaminated with salmonella--in my snow peas. I refused to eat them and the waitress refused to subtract them from the bill. The people I was with ate their dishes, which they declared tasteless. At Bo Loong the people were friendly, the service lightning fast, and the food wonderful. Admitedly it was less spicy than I would have liked, but that's why the chili oil is on the table. If you enjoy eating cardboard from a chain restuarant go ahead, but I highly recommend Bo Loong to those who do not.

Award Winning Bo Loong! Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in the US! Congratulations!

by dominicyoung at Citysearch

I am glad to find out Bo Loong has won the Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in the US award again! - (2004, 2005, 2006) - Bestowed by a national magazine - Chinese Restaurant News! Elected by Martin Yan (Yan Can Cook) and many famous food experts & critics among the nation. Bo Loong is the only Chinese restaurant in Cleveland which was elected and won this award. It's an honor of Cleveland! I have been a loyal customer of Bo Loong for years! I love this place, so do my family and friends. The authentic dishes & Dim Sum are truly the best! Of course, you have to know how to order with it's diversified menu - in order to take advantage of it's 'BEST'. This is not an ordinary Chinese restaurant, many items are hard to find else where. I recommend the authentic family dinners over the Americanize family dinners of Bo Loong. This place is full of Asian diners, it tells a lot about how good this place is! I wish Bo Loong its continue success!

  • Pros: Award Winning Restaurant; Many Unique Dishes; Friendly Service; Best Food; Perfect for Group Dining

This is the best Chinese food in Cleveland?

by bgaviator2 at Citysearch

Some of the worst Chinese food I've ever had! Went at 5:30 on a Saturday. No one was in the restaurant, and this was around 5:30 pm, which seems off for what is supposedly such a popular place. The wait staff was just sitting around a table, and I almost felt like I was being watched while we sat there. Very unprofessional. Waiter was not very friendly. Appetizers were not that good. What really irritated me is that my wife's entree came out 10 minutes before mine did! Even a couple that had ordered 5 minutes after I did had their food before me! Once my food came out, I was very displeased with how bland the dish was. Isn't Szechwan supposed to be spicy? My Szechwan dish had no spice at all! Overall extremely bland food! Im originally from Dayton and Ive experienced much better Chinese restaurants there than this "top rated" Bo Loong. Please don't waste your time. Just go to P.F. Chang's instead for a more enjoyable meal and experience. Try Jade Tree in Mentor for better Chinese food as well (rated top Chinese food by Cleveland Magazine).

  • Pros: nothing
  • Cons: Creepy atmosphere, rude service, bland and terrible food
