Max's Deli Closed?

by EllisAnderson

I heard that Max's Deli closed. Is that true? We just love going there. It was always somewhere special for us to go to.

by marcella2060

MORE LIKE MAX'S HELLI...... THE food here is spoiled and the meat isnt fresh. when the server came over to wipe our table the rag smelled like it hadnt been cleaned for weeks and a smell i'll never forget. oh gosh the smell was something else..........! please take your money elsewhere or you'll find yourself like me writing a bad review, i didnt have time to do this but i made because "I CARE"

  • Pros: Desserts are "PRETTY"
  • Cons: but taste "PRETTY" BAD because they're old and not fresh!

no way no how

Never eat here. You think it's fresh... think again... the staff won't eat there. There are a lot of unclean things they do... things are pre-made for weeks and sit in a cooler. Want corned beef? go to Joe's Deli in River... Clean, always busy, great service and fresh, hot food. Want Cheesecake? Same place, Joe's Deli... family owned, family run and family friendly. No one there looks down their nose at you and IT'S CLEAN. Never eat from the deli... the Gnocci sits for weeks, take a pic of it and I swear the same, identical view will be there a week from the date you took it. The brown rice smells and I can assure you it's not because of the cabbage.

  • Pros: nothing, unless it's bottled and sealed and not made there
  • Cons: you name it... insect carcasses were on the floor at the back entrance

Wear-and-tear is evident, but this quirky little shop sees a lot of business for its tasty sandwiches and desserts.

The Scene
Sure, it's cute (abstract wall murals, sleek black furniture) and quirky, but the restaurant takes a lot of wear-and-tear from all its traffic. The service is slow, the ceiling paint is peeling and more than a couple lights need new bulbs.

The Food

The menu is bursting, from pita wraps to above-average burgers and deli sandwiches. The Veggie Grill, veggie cheeseburger, quiche and Ceasar salad make lasting impressions. Selections from the 30-item dessert list are housed in a glass cooler visible from every corner of the dining room. Cheesecake is the featured distraction, with the house-recipe wedges getting special effects help from Oreos, peanut-butter cups, dark chocolate and every berry known to man. There's also an assortment of huge cakes, pies, pastries and hand-dipped chocolate covered Oreos.

Max's Deli was Great!

by MagsScag2006

I went with two of my teenage friends and we had a blast - not to mention the desserts that were to die for! I loved the chocolate raspberry cheesecake - yum yum!!! Their assortment of desserts was simply mouth-watering and it was hard just to choose one. I plan on getting my birthday cake from here because it was just so good I've got to go back for more!

  • Pros: Excellent food, Wonderful atmosphere, Open late-12a on Sat.
  • Cons: 1 toilet in bathrooms

Desserts to die for

by kelliegirl50

I've been going to Max's Deli on and off for a number of years. The food is average deli food - nothing to write home about, but good nonetheless. They have a nice selection, including a number of vegetarian dishes. The desserts, however, are outstanding and are worth the hour drive from the East side. They make divine cheesecake, fruit tarts, keylime tarts, buckeyes, and various tortes. Definitely worth the trip, wherever you live!

  • Pros: good parking, great desserts
  • Cons: tables too close, average food

OMG

by Westside_Yuppie

Who gives this deli a 10 rating!? Will never place foot in this establishment again! After years of going to this formerly outstanding restaurant, I can not believe that they have lowered their standards that are not acceptable to us anymore.

They now serve SYSCO sweets that are truly attractive but ALL SUGAR!

Save your time, travel down Detroit Road to Clifton Avenue to some real home-style desserts. Try Truffles. You will be amazed at the quality at Truffles.

  • Pros: Inexpensive, Good Location, Curb-side Parking
  • Cons: Poor Quality, Desserts TOO SWEET, Hot Soup Served Cold

Down the Tubes Bigtime!

by mjarail

It used to be pretty decent, but over the last 2 years it has really slipped. The worst factor is the waitstaff, most of whom are the "Muffy and Buffy" types of Rocky River. They couldn't get an order straight even if their lives depended on it. Then there is the food. One would expect decent potato pancakes in a deli, but theirs are like eating chewy particle board. Put this place out of its misery, and ours too.
