Be wary of credit card theft at this location
by JoTed1 at Citysearch
We ordered carry out - my wife picked it up and paid with a card she had not used for 2-3 weeks prior. We received a call the next am from CheapTickets dot com asking if we really did want to pay for a ticket from Shanghei to Sydney for a Yu <Chinese name>
Credit card theft at Hunan Coventry.
Food is average, theft is unbelieveable
Ya' Know, Its ok.....

This restaurant is like the McDonald's of Chinese food. I cant say i have ever had a bad meal there but nothing memorable either. If you are looking for a Chinese restaurant for someone that doesn't really like Chinese food this is definitely the place. Its hard to warrant going to a place like this for dinner however for a quick lunch with co-workers, this is your best bet. I am not sure whether its the water in Cleveland that has dulled everyones taste buds or if we are just ready to settle for mundane food. The fact that people gave this 5 stars truly scares me. Put this place in the food court at a mall and it would be right at home!
- Pros: Relitively inexpensive, fast
- Cons: bland food
Terrible Chinese Food
by luxor24 at Citysearch
I am an American born Chinese and have been eating American Chinese food my entire life. The food at Hunan Coventry was horrible. Your usual Chinese food basics like Cashew Chicken, Chicken and Broccoli, Hot and Sour Soup, and Potstickers were bland and tasteless. For the poor quality and the average amount the prices are exorbitant. Less than mediocre overall.
This was better in the good old daze!

I have worked at several Asian restaurants. Hunan at Coventry is not a bad place. However, since working at Asian restaurants I can say the food is Americanized. The sauces are very similar in many dishes. I have specifically tasted A1 in several dishes and when I asked the server they were surprised that I had asked this. On several occasions the dishes were practically bathed in oil. This could be do the fact that some Chinese places flash fry the contents of the dishes and then stir fry them. This is a very flavor full way to cook the dishes but not very good for you. I can?t say for sure they do this but I witnessed this a few of the places that I worked. The service is ok depending on who you get. On one occasion I had the rude waiter that did not want to modify the dishes that I ordered. And when I wanted to return one of the dishes do the high quantity of oil that was floating in the dish they essentially acted like it was my fault. Bottom line there is a reason you do not see to many Asian people eating at this place. However this is a good American Chinese restaurant.
- Pros: Location, Clean, Value, Menu, Portions
- Cons: Greasy, not authentic, inconsistent service
Come here if you want below average, unimpressive americanized Chinese food.

I can't believe this place is highly rated for chinese food in Cleveland. Very average and unauthentic chinese food. Trust me. I've had chinese food from most major cities. Maybe this is considered good by Cleveland standards. But overall, this stuff is very substandard. It's very Americanized Chinese food. Nothing authentic. Nothing impressive. For example, I ordered the sesame chicken dish. Basically all it is is deep fried chicken. Then they have this sauce on the side(which tastes like barbeque sauce) and then they throw some sesame seeds in it. and they try to pass it off as sesame chicken. Nice try. You can fool many patrons, but for people who have actually had really good authentic chinese food, they won't be coming back.
Tantalize Your Tastebuds

Looking for the best Chinese food in Town? Look no further! You'll be pleasantly welcomed and treated to the freshest vegetables and most tender meat your tongue has tasted. If you don't have time to enjoy the open, comfortable atmosphere, don't dispair. You can get this great food to go, but even then you get quality. Individually wrapped plastic wear, nice napkins, even the condiments are the same thing you get if dining in.
- Pros: moderate prices, family friendly, GREAT ffod
- Cons: small occupancy
This is the BEST!

The previous couple of reviews are not in any way typical of my many experiences at Hunan Coventry - don't let them keep you from experiencing this fantastic restaurant, which sets the standard for all other restaurants as to quality, consistency and value!
I swear that their wonton soup will help cure whatever ails you - at the first sign of a headcold, I get a large portion to take home. The chicken broccoli and sauce is amazing, and the protions are so large that for me it's good for three meals.
TC and his wife are in the restaurant every day, which is one of the reasons it is so successful. The wait staff have been there many years, no high turnover like you see in other places, and they have always been polite to my table.
Average All Around

There is better Chinese food in Cleveland. If you want fair pricing for "Americanized" Chinese food- you will find this place good. However, if you are looking for authentic food-don't go here. I have eaten here many times-I don't expect much. The food is average-same menu as most resturants.
- Pros: Price
- Cons: Same menu
great food, worst service
by chanc6 at Citysearch
Food was served promptly and was delicious. However, the waiters were rude and hard to get a hold of. Twice this happened to us. We always leave cash tip and pay by credit. The waiter just stands there to pick up the signed bill. For having 0 tip on the bill, on two different occasions, the waiters asked us in public "is that your tip? 0 dollars?" and "aren't you going to tip me anything?" We have learned to tip them by credit now and We suggest you to do the same.
- Pros: great food, timely served
- Cons: , rude waiters, hard to stop waiters
TONGUE TINGLING

This place is GREAT. The atmosphere is wonderful, TC makes you feel right at home (without the messy kitchen). But the best part is the food, everything from the hot & sour soup, to happy family. The beef is especially tender and all dishes are served hot and timely. My favorite is the general Tso chicken, best in the city.
- Pros: atmosphere, inexpensive, good service
- Cons: too small
